Privacy policyThis web service collects personal information about you. This information is used by a game convention and/or membership organization ("con") you have chosen to be involved with. This web service does not collect or store your bank account or credit card information. We do not require you to enter your phone number or street address. This web site may guide you in making payments to the con but it is your responsibility to ensure it is the correct organization once you get to PayPal and any issues regarding such payments, including services delievered and/or refunds are between you and the con. Your personal information may be seen by people or businesses that perform services for the web site or the con, such as our web hosting company, copy centers, the U.S. Postal Service, staff members and volunteers. Overall your personal information on our web site has a low level of security. This web site uses temporary cookies to manage your login status. If temporary cookies are disabled you will be unable to use this site. Persistent cookies may be used as well but are not required. The password you pick for your registration account should not be the same as what you use for anything else. An internet hacker or other individual could learn that password from our database and attempt to use it to access accounts you have elsewhere. If you have your login password remembered (an option on the login page) then it will be stored in a persistent cookie which can be examined by anyone who has access to the computer you use. The above web service database privacy policy last updated 8/16/08. Here is our old policy, for your enjoyment (from 11/13/2006): Your personal data resides on computers operated by one of the cheapest web hosting companies we could find. We make no effort to check their physical security, their network security, their operating policies, or how they hire, train and supervise their staff. The security features built into this web site were designed by people who have no formal training in how to design internet and database security features. The programming was done by people who haven't written any programs since the last millennium. We will, from time to time, make backup copies of your personal information. Those copies will likely be left in an unlocked file cabinet in our office, in the trunk of a car, tossed into a backpack, left on the disk drive of an unsecured computer in a staff member's home or carried around on a laptop computer. When we dispose of the data we are likely to break the CD and toss it into the garbage can. We will share your personal information with any uniformed law enforcement personnel who say ‘please’ when they ask for it. Our staff keep their E-mail addresses in the same database where your personal information is stored. We don't want our E-mail addresses, or yours, to get into the hands of spammers, salesmen, or politicians. We won't ever sell, rent, lease or hypothecate your personal information, including your preference in games, how early you check into a game convention on a work day, or how late you stay up playing. We may aggregate your personal data with others to produce information such as which games are most popular, how many people play on both Friday and Sunday, or what percentage of miniatures players also play computer games. When we do so we try to remove from the aggregate any information which would personally identify you. We will share the aggregated data with anyone we choose. We promise to always do with your personal information what we think is right and ethical. We think the capability and security of our web site is far above what any small game convention could expect to be created by their own volunteers.
